Had a Loewe Xelos for about a year now - amazing in almost all aspects. One thing that has continued to plague me is that fact that when i turn it off (off as in standby using the remote) the TV will switch from a single green LED (on the front) to a single red LED (meaning standby). This is all fine. However, somewhere between 30 seconds to 2 minutes after putting it into standby, the TV sounds like it powers back up (you can hear the CRT click and static noise), the red and green LEDs light up, but there is absolutely no picture.
No nothing. It doesn't happen all the time. Doesn't seem to matter what i'm doing with it (which AV input i'm using before i turn it off etc).Has anyone experienced this? I've searched everywhere and can't seen to find out any info on this. If you've only had it a year why are you even waiting for a reply to your question? I've had a Loewe Credo for 5yrs now and while it was under warranty for the first 3 years I called them out for anything. In the end I had them out about 4 times. Once too install a VGA card, once for a SW upgrade, once to replace the RGB board and a couple just to check out little gremlins I thought it had.
They're a great TV and even though it's been replaced as the main TV by a plasma, it still amazes me with the 3D quality it has. I watched the Catherine Zeta Jones/George Cloone movie on it via DVD the other night and the PQ was extraordinary. Get on to whoever sold it to you and ask for a service call ASAP. If it was Encels, where I bought mine from, the tech who comes out is Kaizim and the service I got was excellent.

No nothing. You haven't said how you have your components connected, any by SCART? Perhaps the Xelos has some 'auto turn on' when it sees a voltage on the SCART AV/TV pin, and one of your components is asserting this (perhaps due to a dodgy bit of software/hardware controlling the pins in the SCART, you would be suprised at how many devices don't follow the standard 100% due to engineering design confusions etc)?
Then perhaps it spots no AV signal, so auto-turns off after 2 mins (or whatever the auto turn off time is).My Profil doesn't have this, but I wouldn't be suprised if higher end loewes do.Regards. Good point about getting them to come have a look at it. The only reservation i have is that i can't seem to get it to happen on command.
Still, they can have a look at it and just hope it happens when they're here. The STB is connected via fully-wired SCART (RGB), but it was definately happening before i even got the box.I do have the DVD player connected via SCART, but that is a SCART to Component lead which i don't think would have the issue you are talking about. Plus, the DVD player is always off (main power switch, not standby) before the TV is turned off.bodalenko - i take it they shouldn't charge for the service visits since it's under warranty. Got mine here in WA. How did you know it needed a SW update or had one available?cheers. The service is FOC for the 3 years it's under warrantyand I had them out the last time 2 weeks before the warranty expired, just to give it the once over. Loewe trade on reliability and quality They relise that a lot of the little faults are intermitent. My RGB fault only surface when I connect a Toshiba 900e DVD to it and used the RGB in.
If I'd never tried the RGB in I would have never known there was a problem with it. The set was performing perfecttly other wise. When the tech came out he swapped the circuit board as a last option and that was what turned out to be the problem. I'm in Vic, but as I said I had no problems dealing with my supplier. In the end I just by passsed them and dealt with the Tech one on one. Every time they came out to check mine I asked them if there were any new SW upgrades.
It there was I got then to upgrade it. It was only a matter of connecting the unit to the laptop the service guy had with him and down loading the new software. They will also readjust the geometry using a disk they bring with them. I've tried it myself but it's pretty nerve racking. You do it via the service mode and for god's sake make sure you write down the setting before you start playing with it.

Pumpkins,Before you jump to conclusions about faults in your TV, have you considered the EPG updating that the Xelos tries to do?I have a 70cm Xelos in my bedroom, and it has been set to automatically update the EPG (Electronic Program Guide) at 12:00am each day, even though that's a feature that only works in European markets where the program guide is published via Teletext. If I have the TV turned off at midnight, it half-turns on by itself (tube sounds like it powers up, green light comes on as well as the red light, no picture or sound) and searches for updated EPG information. It can't find any, but that's okay as it turns off about 30 minutes anyway and doesn't disturb me whilst it's on.If the TV is on at midnight, then the EPG download process waits for about 1 minute after I turn off the TV, then the same process commences as described above.I'd suggest there's nothing at all wrong with your Xelos - just check when the EPG update is set to happen, and disable it if the process is annoying you. I know that the update doesn't do anything to the TV, but it is such a 'background' process that I've never bothered to look up how to turn it off.Hope that helps,James. Thankfully my 'old faithful' is too long in the tooth to have that new fangled stuff!I'd seriously recommend disabling that 'feature', as it will surely shorten the life of the tube, and probably other bits and pieces as well.BTW: You dont need a technician for the service menu. Tony knows how to access it. From memory, you press the function (or whatever its called) button on the front of the TV, and use the remote to navigate to the 'service' menu entry, then press the 'M' key on the remote.BTW Tony: You think $1.9K's bad.

You didn't get an 'all the fruit' '97 model! Still, it was the best value for money over the period I've owned it. Nothing came close for years, and it still kicks SD arse - its just a little small these days!
